Blanco County was officially formed in 1858, with Johnson City serving as the county seat. Named after the river that traverses the county, Blanco County is mostly known as the birthplace and hometown of the 36th United States president, Lyndon Baines Johnson. The county’s economy is mainly sustained by agribusiness, livestock-trailer manufacturing, ranch supplies, hunting and fishing, and tourism. Coastal hay, vegetables, wheat, peaches, pecans, and nursery plants are the main agricultural produce, as well as sheep, goat, stocker cattle, and cow-calf operations. Tourism has also become a major factor in the economy with visitors flocking to the Blanco State Recreation Area, the Pedernales Falls State Park, and the historical Lyndon Baines Johnson Birthplace, Boyhood Home and Ranch.
