Cameron is the southernmost county of the state of Texas, with Brownsville as the county seat. It was established in 1848 and named after Mier expedition member Captain Ewen Cameron. Agriculture is a big factor in the county’s economy and was one of the state’s biggest producers of cotton and sorghum.
