Camp County is situated in East Texas and is the third smallest county of the state. It was established in 1874 and named after a state senator, John Lafayette Camp. Pittsburg, the largest town, was voted to be the county seat. It is also said to be known as the hot link capital of Texas, which is the origin of the Pittsburg hot links. Poultry processing and agriculture are key industries in Camp County, with poultry, poultry products, beef, dairy cattle, horses, peaches, hay, blueberries, and vegetables as the chief agriculture products. Light manufacturing and timber industries are also important segments in the county. Water sports, lake fishing and visiting farmsteads and airship museum are some of the recreation options, including the annual Chickfest.
