Carson County was established in 1888 and was named after Samuel Price Carson. Its only town at that time, Panhandle, was chosen to be the county seat. Carson’s economy is supported by diverse industries, including ranching and farming, petroleum, transportation and the Pantex nuclear weapons assembly/disassembly facility. Chief agricultural products include cattle, cotton, wheat, sorghum, corn, hay and soybeans, like other counties.
