Located in south central Texas, Comal County, and its government seat, New Braunfels, was established in 1846. Various manufacturing, tourism, and agriculture are the main elements in the county's economy, with cattle, goats, sheep, hogs, horses, nursery plants, hay, corn, sorghum, and wheat as the primary products. In a recent survey of the U.S. Census Bureau, Comal County placed second in the greatest percentage growth in population between 2017 to 2018, with a population growth of 5.4%. The increase in population was attributed to domestic migration, as the county is a part of the San Antonio metro area. There are many recreational activities in Comal, like visiting the Gruene historic area, tubing on the Guadalupe River, and the Schlitterbahn water park.
