Crane County is situated in Texas and the county’s seat is Crane. The county was originally created in 1887 but was officially founded exactly forty years later in 1927. The county was formed from Tom Green County in 1887. William Carey Crane was the namesake of the town who was a former president of Baylor University. The county’s population was very low in the early 1900s as there were no roads in the county. The county’s first well was built in 1926. The largest part of the city’s economy comes from oil and gas production. The county is one of the largest producing oil fields in Texas.
