Denton County is the ninth-most-populous county in the state of Texas. Denton is the county’s seat. The namesake of the town was John B. Denton who was a Methodist minister, political candidate, lawyer, and soldier. The county itself was established in 1846. The area was settled in the early 1840s but it was considered a part of Fannin County until the Annexation of Texas. The county seat was originally Pickeneyville, it was changed to Alton, and afterward to Denton which is the county seat today. Some of the top sights in Denton County are Lewisville Lake, Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, and Northshore Trail.
