Dickens County is a county situated in Texas. Dickens is also the name for the county seat. The county was originally founded in 1876 but was officially organized fifteen years later. The county and the county seat were both named after a certain J. Dickens who died at the Battle of the Alamo. The first cotton of the county was planted in the year 1890 by Hagins who moved to the county one year prior. Hagins built a gin mil in 1891, the same year when the county was organized. The cattle industry continues to dominate the county.
