Ellis County is situated in the state of Texas and its county seat is Waxahachie. The county was first founded in 1849 but was organized the next year. The county itself is named for Richard Ellis. He was the president of the convention that manufactured the Texas Declaration of Independence. Many Hungarians, Czechs, and Germans settled in the area in the 1850s. The mild climate made the cattle-raising most popular way to earn money in the county. Some of the top sights situated in Ellis County are Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival, Bardwell Lake, Lake Waxahachie, and Poston Gardens.
