Fayette County is a county situated in the state of Texas. La Grange is the county seat. The county was founded in 1837 and was organized the following year. The county was formed from Bastrop and Colorado counties. Marquis de Lafayette was the namesake of the town. He was a French nobleman who was an American Revolutionary War Hero. Some of the historical sites situated in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Fayette County.
