Galveston County is a county situated in the state of Texas. The county seat is also Galveston. The county is set on the Gulf Coast. The county itself was founded in 1838 and the county seat was founded the following year. The county was formed from Liberty, Brazoria, and Harrisburg counties’ territories. The county’s total area consists of fifty-seven percent of water. In the year 1900, a hurricane destroyed the county, around six thousand residents of the county were killed. The recovery of the county was swift. The oil boom of the county began in 1901.
