Glasscock County is a county situated in the state of Texas. Garden City is the county seat of Glasscock County. George Washington Glasscock is the namesake of the town. He was an early settler that came from Austin in Texas. The county itself was founded in 1887 and was officially organized six years later in 1893. The Indians ruled the lands in the early nineteenth century as the area was not appealing to white settlers because of its aridity. The first white settler that came to the area in 1883 was L.S. McDowell.
