Gonzales County is a county located in the state of Texas. The county was named for the county seat, Gonzales. The county seat was named for Rafael Gonzales who was the governor of Coahulla y Tejas. The county was founded in 1836 and was officially organized the following year. Paleo-Indians Hunter-gatherers were around the area thousands of years ago. Waco and Comanche tribes were in the area before it was overtaken by the European American settlers with whom they competed for the most.
