Harris county is the most populous county in Texas and the third most populous county in the United States. The county was founded in 1836 and was named after John Richardson Harris who founded Harrisburg on Buffalo earlier in 1826. Harris county is the largest wheat-exporting port in the United States and contains the nation’s largest concentration of oil processing and petrochemical plants. Harris county is also home to the Toyota Center, a 19,000-seat capacity indoor stadium which is also the home of the Houston Rockets. The Johnson Space Center is also located in Harris County, which has served as a hub of human space flight for more than 50 years.
