Lavaca County is a county situated in the state of Texas. The county seat of Lavaca County is the city of Halletsville. The namesake of the county itself is Lavaca River which passes through the county. French explorer Rene-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle named the river as a corruption of Rivier des Vaches (“Cow River”).
