The county of Newton, located east of the Texas state, was founded in 1846 and was named after John Newton, a soldier who served in the American Revolutionary War. It has been economically dependent on cattle-raising and the production of hay and timber. This county features some interesting historical sites from the Francis Wilson Historical Marker in Bon Wier to Odom Homestead in Burkeville. It is also home to the annual Festival of Lights Parade, where you can enjoy the “tree-mendous” Christmas displays of lights and ornaments, while strolling down this vibrant park. Furthermore, this county offers a variety of food selection from steaks, seafood, barbecues, Cajun, and other Mexican and Italian specialties.
