The county of Panola, located in the north-eastern region of the Texas state, was established and organized in 1846. It was named after the Cherokee word ponolo which means cotton. Hence, where the county largely depended on during its early days. Farming and ranching remained to be the county’s economic mainstay but hay, beef cattle, and broilers became its major agricultural products. It also features some of the most interesting sites in the state from the Tex Ritter Museum to Lake Murvaul, where you can camp, fish, or just enjoy the beautiful scenery of this reservoir. Panola County is also home to the famous Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. Furthermore, smokehouses, cafés, Chinese restaurants, Southwestern diners, pizzerias, and tea rooms serve this county.
