The county of Reeves, located west of the Texas State, was established in 1883 and organized in 1884. It was named after George R. Reeves, a Confederate Army colonel and a Texas state legislator. This county has been economically dependent on its agriculture, oil, and manufacturing industries; barley, cotton, wheat, and hay were its major agricultural products. It also features some of the popular historical and recreational sites from the West of the Pecos Museum to the Balmorhea State Recreation Area and Lake. Thus, tourism also plays a significant role in its economy; the county of Reeves is home to numerous annual and year-round celebrations like the Rodeo Week, Night in Old Pecos, 1800s Parade, June Fest, Frijole Cookoff, cantaloupe festival, and Fall Fair Festival. Moreover, American, Mexican, Asian, and Italian cuisines are all being served in this county.
