The county of Rusk, located east of the Texas state, was established and organized in 1843 and was named after Thomas Jefferson Rusk, a war secretary of the Republic of Texas. This county has been economically dependent on its farming, ranching, oil, gas, lignite mining, and electricity generation industries; beef cattle, poultry, forage, and nursery plants were its major agricultural products. It also features interesting historical and recreational sites from the Rusk Footbridge to the Birmingham Forest Golf Club.
