The county of Sterling, located west of the Texas state, was established and organized in 1891. It’s the ninth-least populous county in the state, and it was named after W. S. Sterling, a buffalo hunter who was one of the first settlers in the area. This county has been economically dependent on its ranching, hunting, farming, oil, and gas industries; cattle, goats, horses, sheep, wheat, and hay were its primary agricultural products. Hence, this county is famous as a good hunting area for deer, quail, turkey, and dove; a Hunters’ Appreciation Dinner every November and a Junior Livestock Show is celebrated every December. Furthermore, barbecues, steaks, pizzas, and Mexican specialties are dominantly served in this area.
