The county of Swisher, located in the north-western region of the Texas state, was established in 1876 and organized in 1890. It was named after James Swisher, a signatory in the Texas Declaration of Independence. This county has been economically dependent on its cotton processing and manufacturing industries; cotton, cattle, corn, wheat, cucumbers, and sorghum were its primary agricultural products. It also features some interesting historical sites from libraries, courthouses, and museums, to the Mackenzie Battle Site. Its county seat hosts a Picnic Celebration every July. Moreover, Italian pizzas, barbecues, and Tex-Mex food specialties are dominant in this county.
