The county of Terry, located west of the Texas state, was established in 1876 and organized in 1904. It was named after Benjamin Franklin Terry, a Confederate colonel and the head of the Eighth Texas Cavalry. This county has been economically dependent on its oil, farming, ranching, and peanut processing industries; cotton, peanuts, grain sorghum, wheat, guar, cattle, melons, and grapes were its primary agricultural products. It is also home to some interesting historic sites, museums, aquatic centers, and vineyards; Terry County celebrates a vineyard festival every August and a harvest festival every October. Barbecue smokehouses, pizza places, and comfort food joints, along with local Tex-Mex restaurants dominate this area.
