The county of Tom Green, located in the west-central region of the Texas state, was established in 1874 and organized in 1875. It was named after Tom Green, general of the Texas Revolution. This county has been economically dependent on its farming, ranching, trading, education, and medical industries; cotton, goats, cattle, sheep, milo, and small grains were its primary agricultural products. It also features some interesting historical and recreational sites from the Fort Concho Museum to the San Angelo State Park. Water sports and hunting, along with rodeos, drag boat races, and other events are the county’s main tourist activities. Seafood and barbecue, along with Asian and Tex-Mex specialties are dominantly served in this area.
