The county of Upshur, located in the north-eastern region of the Texas state, was established and organized in 1846. It was named after Abel Upshur, who once served as the Secretary of State. This county has been economically dependent on its timber, manufacturing, oil, gas, farming, and ranching industries; timber is its most significant product but beef cattle, poultry, dairy, hay, and vegetable crops were its major agricultural crops. It also features interesting historical and recreational sites that include museums, lakes, scenic trails, and state parks. Its county seat is home to the Cherokee Village and it celebrates an annual Yamboree every October. Furthermore, steaks, barbecue, hamburgers, along with Tex-Mex specialties are dominantly served in this county.
