The county of Ward, located in the south-western region of the Texas state, was established in 1887 and organized in 1892. It was named after Thomas W. Ward, a soldier and a leader of the Texas Revolution. This county has been economically dependent on its hunting leases, oil, gas, and government services industries; beef cattle, horses, greenhouse crops, and alfalfa were its major agricultural products. It also features some of the best historical and recreational sites such as the Million Barrel Museum, Rattlesnake Bomber Base Museum, and Monahans Sandhills State Park, where you can enjoy camel treks. A Butterfield stagecoach festival is also celebrated every July. Furthermore, barbecue smokehouses, pizza parlors, and Tex-Mex restaurants dominate this county.
