Wharton County is a county located in the state of Texas. Wharton is also the name for the county’s seat. Both the county and the county’s seat were named for brothers John Austin Wharton and William Harris Wharton. The county was originally founded in 1846. Before the county’s establishment, the Karankawa Indians inhabited the place. Fights against white settlers caused the Karankawa Indians to retreat into Mexico by the year 1850. Some of the top sights located in Wharton County in Texas are 20th Century Technology Museum, El Campo Museum, and Riverfront Park.
