Wichita County is a county located in the state of Texas. Wichita Falls is the county seat as well as the largest city of Wichita County. The county was formed in 1858 and was officially organized in 1882. Wichita and Taovaya Indians were the latest tribes that inhabited the area. These tribes heavily relied on agriculture. Mabel Gilbert is considered the first Anglo-American settler in the area. He was a pioneer of the settlement that later became Dallas.
