Willacy County is a county situated in the state of Texas. Raymondville is the county seat as well as the largest city of Willacy County. John G. Willacy is the namesake of the county. He was a Texas democratic politician. Willacy County was formed in the year 1911 from parts of Hidalgo and Cameron counties. The Bermuda Onion was introduced to the area one year after the county was formed and it grew really well in the area. The first oil wells started operating in the year 1940. Today, oil is a large part of the county’s economy.
