The county of Wood, located in the north-eastern region of the Texas state, was established and organized in 1850. It was named after George T. Wood, who served as a governor in the Texas state. This county has been economically dependent on its farming, ranching, oil, gas, timber, and tourism industries; cattle, poultry, dairy, forages, nurseries, and vegetables were its primary agricultural products. It also features some interesting historical and recreational sites from the Gov. Hogg Shrine State Historic Site and Museum to the Mineola Depot. Wood County is also home to many scenic drives, autumn trails, and lakes, where you can hunt, fish, and birdwatch. Furthermore, steaks, barbecue, pizza, and fried chicken, along with Tex-Mex specialties are dominantly served in this county.
