The county of Yoakum, located west of the Texas state, was established in 1876 and organized in 1907. It was named after Henderson Yoakum, a pioneer historian in Texas. This county has been economically dependent on its farming, ranching, oil, and gas industries; cotton, peanuts, wheat, watermelons, sorghum, and cattle were its primary agricultural products. It also features some interesting historical and recreational sites, from the Yoakum County Courthouse to the Tsa Mo Ga Museum. Its county seat also celebrates a watermelon roundup every weekend of Labor Day. Furthermore, you can find a wide variety of food selections, from steaks, burgers, and pizzas to burritos, tacos, and other Mexican specialties.
