Cochran County was formed in 1876 and was named after Robert Cochran, who fought at the Alamo. In 1924, the county was formally organized, and its largest town, Morton, was voted to be the county seat. Oil Production and agriculture are the main elements of the county's economy, with cotton, sorghum, wheat, peanuts, and sunflowers as their primary agricultural products. Recreation options in the county include visiting the museum, going to the county fair and rodeo, and joining special events like the Buffalo Soldier Day and Cochran's celebration of Texas' history and legacy, with the Last Frontier Heritage Celebration.
