Crockett County was first founded in 1875 and was officially established in 1891. The county itself is placed on the Edwards Plateau in Texas. The county was named originally for Davy Crockett who died at the Battle of the Alamo as a legendary frontiersman. The county was formed on the twelfth of January in 1875 from Bexar County. When the county was officially established, Ozona was selected as the county seat and has remained since then. In 1939, Crockett County Museum was opened in Ozona. The museum was moved twenty years later to the town square where it is today.
