Crosby County is situated in Texas and the county’s seat is Crosbyton. The county’s original settlement was in 1876, but it was officially organized just ten years later in 1886. Both the county and the town were named for the same man. Stephen Crosby who was a land commissioner in Texas. Until 2013, Crosby County was one of the 19 counties situated in Texas to disallow sales of any kind of alcoholic beverage. The town of Crosbyton became the county seat in 1910, before that, it was Estacado. Oil was discovered in Crosby County in the year 1955.
