Dimmit County is situated in the state of Texas and its county seat is Carizzo Springs. The county was founded in 1856 and was officially organized in the year 1880. Philip Dimmitt had a major figure in the Texas Revolution and was the namesake of the county. The county is spelled differently from the person’s name because of an error that occurred when the county’s name was created. The best tourist attractions are situated in Carizzo Springs which is the county seat. The oil field that is known as the Big Well Oil Field was discovered in 1969, it extends into Zavala County.
