Falls County is a county situated in the state of Texas. Marlin is the county seat of Falls County. Falls County was named for the original ten-foot-tall waterfall that was situated on the Brazos River before the river changed its course due to a storm that occurred in 1866. Today’s falls can be found around two miles northeast from its original location. Falls County was formed from Milam and Limestone counties in the year 1850. By the 1890s, Marlin, the county seat, was very well known for its healing powers from the mineral waters. The Houston and Texas Central Railway was the first railroad to pass through the county around the 1870s.
