Hemphill county was named in honor of the first chief justice of the Texas Supreme Court, John Hemphill. You can visit the River Valley Pioneer museum which showcases the history of the area as well as serving as an exhibit hall for local artists. Hemphill county is also home to the Texas Crown performance hall where artists form all over the United States perform everything from country music to Las Vegas style shows. Hemphill county also showcases a 4th of July rodeo where people from surrounding counties come to watch. Hunting and fishing is also popular in the county.
