Hill County was founded in 1853 and was named in honor of George Washington Hill, the secretary of war and the secretary of the navy under the republic of Texas. Hill county is also known as the Wedding Capital of Texas due to the amazing views and backdrops of the Texas Sunset. Hill county is also home to many Tuscany-like wineries that produce some of the best local wines in the state. Hill county has countless hotels, bed and breakfasts, and secluded cabins that make for excellent vacation destinations. If you’re a fan of long drives, there’s a 13-mile scenic drive that goes through the county where you can see the Texas landscape in all its glory.
