Jim Wells country was established in 1911 and was named after James B. Wells Jr., a lawyer, judge, and a boss in the Democratic Party in South Texas. The main product of the county is oil and petrochemical products. In fact, the county’s seat, Alice, has more than a hundred different oil field companies. The county also serves as a headquarters for many major oil companies. Alice has also been recognized as the Birthplace of Tejano Music. Other notable places to visit in the county include the Third Coast Squadron Commemorative Air Force Museum, The South Texas Museum, and a number of city parks.
