La Salle County is a county located in the state of Texas. Cotulla is the county seat of La Salle County, it is also the largest city of the county. The county was named for Rene-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle. He was a French explorer who surveyed the area in the 17th century. The county was originally created in 1858 and was officially organized in 1880. After the Mexican War of Independence, their government tried to lure people to settle with land grants. This didn’t work and by 1836 the area was entirely populated by Indians. The International-Great Northern Railroad was the first to arrive in the county in the early 1880s.
