Wheeler County is a county situated in the state of Texas. The county seat of Wheeler County is also named Wheeler. Royall Tyler Wheeler was the namesake of both the county and the town. He was chief justice of the Texas Supreme Court. Wheeler County was one of 30 counties in Texas that prohibited alcoholic beverage sales. It lasted until the city of Shamrock voted to allow liquor sales around the year 2010. It is still the only place to allow liquor sales in the county. The county was originally formed in 1876 and was officially organized three years later in 1879.
