In 2015, Jason Ellis, Heidi Watcher, and John Sibold established Lost Pines Yaupon Tea out of their passion for its taste and benefits, while also seizing an ethical harvesting opportunity. In 2011, the Lost Pines area suffered a significant wildfire and historical human damage. This led to the creation of Lost Pines Habitat Conservation, aiming to restore the area for endangered toads, offering property tax breaks to participants. Blue Owl Brewing specializes in sour beers. That means this is the place to go to in East Austin if you like sour beers. The beers range from “mildly sour to puckering after every sip” sour. Owner Suzy Shaffer says she has had taproom customers “who don’t like beer (and) we’ve been able to convert people (to drinking their beers)”. Co-owner Jeff Young says their “refreshing, light beers” are perfect for Austin’s warm weather. Their taproom opened in 2015. The pastel furniture and décor is a perfect backdrop to the sour beers they serve.
