Cedar Creek is a city located in west-central Bastrop County. The community takes its name from a tributary of the Colorado River named Cedar Creek. In 1884, Cedar Creek served as a shipping point for cotton and country produce. In 1913 oil drilling was introduced and in the 1940s the Yost oilfield was producing commercial quantities. The 46-acre Cedar Creek County Park was dedicated in 2008. It is the first county park. During then, an annual homecoming picnic was held every fourth Sunday in May. In 1842, the Methodist church became an important part of the community.
