In 1886, Celeste was formed because the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway arrived at the site. It is located in Hunt County, Texas. The name is said to be after the wife of a Santa Fe official. This was an economic revenge against Kingston, located three miles north. Celeste drew population and businesses from Kingston. Its population increased even during World War I but after the 1920s, the population declined. In the 1920s, the cotton crop reduced due to boll weevil. As of 2010 census, the population was 814. Celeste was the hometown of a World War II hero, Audie Murphy.
