El Paso, which is a Spanish word meaning “the pass”, is a city located in El Passo County in the US state of Texas. Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca in the company of three were the first European settlers in this city. The four passed through the area on an expedition to Florida. However, historians still argue on the exact route they used for the excursion between 1535 and 1536. Fransisco Vazquez de Coronado led another team covering a vast area, and later founding the American Southwest. The arrival of a rail track significantly boosted the growth of El Paso.
