Ennis City is located in Ellis County in the US state of Texas, and 35 miles to Dallas City’s south. The 2010 census reported the city’s population as 18,513, an increase from the 16,454 reported in 2000. It is Ellis County’s third-largest city. The city is home to Texas Motorplex and National Polka Festival. The city is a significant center for cotton farming and trade. Its establishment was as a result of successful cotton production and the railroad. This attracted prosperity and wealth for the city at the start of the 20th century. The city would continue to be economically sound even when the Great Depression set in. Today, Ennis serves as a bedroom community, a tourist destination, and a manufacturing hub.
