Fredericksburg is located west of the Texas Hill Country with a population of 10,530. Originally founded in 1846, it is named after Price Frederick of Prussia. It is also called Texas’s “gateway to the west” as it showcases a gradual change from the trees and meadows of the east to the rugged hills and rivers of the west. The town of Fredericksburg even has its own dialect commonly known as “Texas German” which was spoken by early settlers who initially refused to give up their native language. Fredericksburg is also the birthplace of Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz who played a major role in the history of World War II.
