Frisco is located along what was once the Shawnee Trail in western Collin County. Before the town was established by the railway, it was called Emerson after Francis Emerson. It was the changed to Frisco after the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway. Frisco is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. It was named one of the ‘Best Places to Live’ in the nation by CNN in 2011. Originally a retail and shipping point for farmers, Frisco had a number of cotton gins and grain elevators and was the home of a Farmers Co-operative Gin Association. In 1990 the community had spread into Denton County.
