Gonzales is a city situated in Gonzales County in Texas. The city is also the county seat. The city’s population was 7,237 as of the 2010 census. The town is one of the earliest Anglo-Americans settlements in Texas. The community was established by Empresario Green DeWitt as the capital of his colony in 1825. The town was informally known as the DeWitt Colony but DeWitt formally named the city for Rafael Gonzales who was the governor of Coahulla y Tejas. The city itself has a total area of 6.1 square miles according to the U.S Bureau. The city’s education system is being provided by the Gonzales Independent School District.
