Graham’s first site was settled in 1871 by two brothers named Edwin S. and Gustavus A. Graham. The brothers moved to Texas after the Civil War. In 1872, the brothers bought a local saltworks and founded the town of Graham. They also established a Graham Land Office. The saltworks was closed in a few years because it was not profitable due to hard shipping. The town’s post office opened one year after Graham’s establishment. The population was growing slowly until oil was discovered in the area in 1917. The population went up from 878 in the year 1900 to 2544 just twenty years later. Graham is located in Young County and is the county seat. The population of the town was 8,903 as of the 2010 census.
