Mineola is a city situated in Wood County in Texas. The city is placed on the intersection of U.S highways 69 and 80. As of the 2010 census, the city’s population was 4,515. The International-Great Northern Railroad and the Texas and Pacific Railroads raced to see which of these would get to Mineola first in 1873. I-GN won by only fifteen minutes. The city came to be that year. The town’s post office was established two years after that, and the town was incorporated in 1877. It is believed that the town was named when a railroad official Ira H. Evans combined the two names of his daughters, Minnie and Ola.
